This tender and fragrant evergreen perennial is a close relative of mint and pairs wonderfully with meat, fish and lots of vegetables. It is better to grow it in a pot so that you can bring it in for the winter and thus keep it for several years.

Start indoors by sowing seeds thickly in light, well-drained soil 8 to 10 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Cut the strands as needed.r.

To preserve it, dry the leaves in the shade or freeze them when cut. Rosemary is a good companion for members of the cabbage family, protecting them from pests - popular for flavoring meats and soups - toss the leaves over hot charcoal to add spice to grilled beef, chicken or of ribs.
